Causes of corneal edema in dogs include age-related corneal endothelial degeneration and breed-associated corneal endothelial dystrophy. As discussed in Part I on this topic (https://www.vetvine.com/list/index/profile/listing_id/918/colors-of-the-cornea-blue), one serious consequence of corneal edema is the development of bullous keratopathy and persistent or recurrent corneal ulceration. In this Specialty Update we focus on the management of corneal ulceration associated with bullous keratopathy in dogs. The focus is on procedures or surgeries that are often required to promote healing of corneal ulcerations in these cases, their success rates, and long-term expectations for affected dogs.
